Rambling Rose Women's Triathlon

Well,, since it's been since January of 2011 I have lots of catching up to do - so in light of that, I'll jump straight today and then maybe work backwards...

TODAY 9/25/11 I experienced my very first triathlon. Now before you get all excited it was a "mini" -triathlon. A 250 yrd swim, 9 mile bike ride, 2 mile run. AND I FINISHED.... now my original goal was under 2 hours, however after a little more thinking I was hoping for 1 hr 30 min and I ended up in the middle @ 1:41:09

Swim 8:52
Transition #1 : 5:43
Bike 47:18
Transition #2: 2:43
Run 36:35
GRAND TOTAL 1:41:09

I guess some history on how this happened is in order. Once upon a time I was sitting at the office and I went into our break area where the magazines and other external publications are on the rack and I picked up a couple of different ones. I picked up the weekly Creative Loafing, the Blue Ridge Outdoor Adventure magazine and the Endurance magazine. I quickly scanned the Blue Ridge magazine for something to do with the dogs in the mountains and then moved onto the Endurance magazine. Right there in the middle of that was a picture of these women that had just finished their own triathlon. I thought to myself, "I could do that" then immediately my brain said "NO you can't do that" - but "sure you can, read the article, find out more."

I hung that article on the wall of my cubicle in hope that it would encourage me to get back in the gym and/or at least more active. Well, I did get more active and one thing lead to another and viola the finish line.
